The claim that Erdogan has died appeared in a video on April 28, 2023, under the title "Breaking: Erdogan faced heart problems that lead to his death."

The claim was shared by many different accounts on the platform. It originated from an interview with the president on a Turkish TV channel, where the live broadcast was cut after he fell ill. Once the broadcast resumed 20 minutes later, he stated that he had developed a serious "stomach flu."

While the claim was that Erdogan had a heart disease that lead to his death on the night of May 14, 2023, when the elections had ended, he and his wife Emine Erdogan appeared before his supporters and gave a speech.
