Fact Check: Insect With Human Face Has NOT Been Spotted It's Art

Has an insect with a human face been spotted? No, that's not true: Illustrations showing what look like an insect with a human face are actually artwork, not a real insect.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) on TikTok by @mtig2g on July 5, 2023, under the title "An insect with a human face."

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

The claim was published by many different TikTok accounts, as can be found here, here and here.

A Google reverse image search showed that the visuals are artworks created by an artist named Richard Wilkinson.

On his webpage, Wilkinson has shared the digital image of this imaginary insect and named it "Daemonius Sanctimonialis" in the "Family: Timorpersonae" art collection.

The TikTok videos purporting to feature an insect with a human face are actually sourced from the artist's personal Instagram account, where he himself published them.
