Fact Check: US Senate Did Not Approve Annexing Aleppo To Turkey No Record

Did US Senate approve the annexation of Aleppo to Turkey? No, that's not true. There is no record of such a decision from the US Senate. Aleppo is internationally recognised as part of the Syrian territories.

The claim appeared in a video (archived here) where it was published on TikTok by @akeraleakar on June 2, 2023 under the title "Aleppo is Turkish, with the approval from US Senate, the reconstruction will be made by Turkey, and it will be jointly administered by Turkey, Russia and an interim government."

This is what the post looked like on TikTok at the time of writing:

While Turkish officials have showed their interest in controlling Aleppo during the Syrian Civil War, claiming it was a possible solution to the refugee crisis, there has been no legal demand by Turkey to annex Aleppo to its territories. Nevertheless, Turkey's policy in the Syrian civil war, including arming and training the rebels and carrying out military operations against the Kurdish forces, has been considered by some analysts as an attempt to increase its hegemony in the region.

While the video claims that the US Senate has approved the annexation of Aleppo to Turkey, there is no record in the official website of the US Seate's Hearing and Meetings regarding such decision.
